Design your own logo: video tutorial #2 (the “playful” logo formula)

Welcome to part 2 of our “design your own logo” series of video tutorials! On Monday, I walked you through the “sophisticated” logo formula (click here if you missed it). Today, it’s all about…

LOGO FORMULA #2: Playful

This logo formula uses an upbeat combo of colors, a combination of one fun font and one basic font, and some tilted/rotated text techniques. The whole thing is pulled together with a circle in the background.

A playful logo like this one would be perfect for a youthful brand that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’ll work best if your blog, business, or project name has three words in it, with an “and”, “with”, or “the” in the middle. And just like last time, you can adapt it by swapping in your own fonts and using your own color scheme.

To use this logo formula and make it your own, all you have to do is:
- Go to ColorLovers.com and pick out a pattern with a color palette that makes your heart go pitter-patter. It should be something that just feels “right” when it comes to the project, blog, or business you’ve got going. Click on the pattern you like, and on the next page, look for “GET THIS PATTERN IMAGE” in the right column. Click where it says “your screen”, and a download window will pop up. Save the file to your computer. This is your color scheme inspiration graphic.
- Go to FontSquirrel.com, choose a fun font (to use for the word that goes on a slant – as seen here with the “with”), and install it on your computer. Here’s how to do it on a PC, and here’s how to do it on a Mac.
- Open up your browser (whatever you normally use – Safari, Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer) and go to http://pixlr.com.
- Press play on the video below to find out exactly how to put all the elements together!

Feeling empowered yet? Good! This is exactly the kind of stuff you’ll learn if you sign up for The Girl’s Guide to Web Design, the fun and feisty online course that teaches you to ditch your fear of code, unleash your inner designer and create an awe-inspiring blog or site. Our students are calling the course “life-changing” , “brilliant”, “a fabulous investment in myself”, and “worth every penny” – but you don’t have to take their word for it! The proof is in the pudding: click here to see the gorgeous sites and blogs they created with the skills they learned in the course.

Enrollment in our First Class Edition (the extra fancy version of the course) closes on January 29th, 2012 – and won’t reopen until at least Fall 2012. (I’m getting married in June (woot!) and will be taking some time off to plan, enjoy, and regroup). Plus, you get super-cool bonuses for creative people if you sign up between now and then, as part of our Magical Mystery Bonus Tour. So if deep down you feel this is YOUR year to finally get that gorgeous site or blog online and looking *exactly* how you want it, head on over to our signup page to find out more.

Alrighty – back to logo talk!
